Now that I have given you an idea about WHAT to look for in a case study, now it is up to YOU to research YOUR own case study for the exam: this should be done over half-term.

One case study per topic should suffice along with media theory to support it.

Please bring in your case studies after half-term so that we can 'fine tune' them in
preparation for the exam (15th. June)

Therefore, what you will need is:

• One case study per topic (we have studied four).


• Relevant media theory for each.


• A good knowledge of the regulators.


• Historical, contemporary and future regulation

What is radio?
What is/was the purpose of radio?

-A means of (broadcast) communication.
-From the beginning it has been used for various purposes:
-From sending messages (apprehending criminals/WWII propaganda) to establishing itself as the first modern ‘media’ form. It is, arguably, the most important media form and its impact on the 20th. (and 21st.) century is probably immeasurable.

-Your research should have a comprehensive analysis of the history of radio to include a timeline detailing significant events/innovators/contributors to radio development etc

Choose a press case study
Apply one of the two media theories to the case study and to the questions below:
1. What effect does regulation have on a society and its citizens?
2. What could be the issues surrounding these effects?
3. What considerations are there concerning regulation (for and against) now and in the future in a democracy?
