Year-13: Media Studies (Advertising Task)

Advertising Task
Carefully analyse the advertisement for the Vigor Horse-Action Saddle. Clearly it was made some time ago. It is very different from a contemporary advertisement.
1. You are a member of a well respected and successful advertising agency. You have been asked by the client, Vigor Health Products, to try to use some elements of this old advertisement in a new advertising campaign for a modern exercise bike. They want the idea that theirs is a long established and respectable company to be attached to the new advertisement.
In a PPT, bullet point the problems using this advertisement in a contemporary market. Think about:-
• the model – his age, class, gender and appearance
• the design of the product
• the language used
• the claims that are made for the product
• the image of the product
• the layout and use of colour
2. Produce a “modernised” advertisement that is in keeping with contemporary ideals of health and fitness . To help you, find advertisements for health products and suggest how you might use these devices to attract a contemporary audience of men or women.
What, essentially, are the major differences? How do modern advertisements make their appeal?
